Removal of Email Forwarding for Students

On November 1, 2020, email forwarding for enrolled students will no longer be supported. This means students who access Siena Heights emails from an external email account will no longer have their Siena Heights emails sent to the email address. The IT Division is moving forward with this change to ensure email delivery and increase security.

Will I be affected?
If you are receiving this email through Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, or another email account, you will be affected. If you are using outlook.office.com, the Outlook app, or another email application with your @sienaheights.edu address, you will not be affected.

How can I prepare for the change?
You can remove your forward early and access your emails through office.com. To remove your forward, please click on this link [NEED LINK: PDF OF FINDING FORWARD] and follow the steps.

Can I still receive emails to another account?
You will not be able to forward emails after November 1. You will be able to set up your SHU email as a secondary account through other email providers. See the below links for more information.

Canvas Updates & News

Canvas Studio Integration

Microsoft Teams and Canvas

The University is implementing Canvas Studio within Canvas. This will allow for the creation of videos and screen capture videos.  Canvas Studio allows you to create rich video content, retain a video library, caption/edit videos and create in-video quizzes all within the Canvas LMS. Studio is also available to students.

“Canvas Studio is a media tool that allows students and instructors to upload, create, edit, manage, share and discuss audio and video files. Existing files can be used or new ones can be created with Studio's capture and editing tools.”
Microsoft Teams is a web-conferencing utility to which all staff, faculty, and students currently have access. Teams is available to schedule meetings, classes, and calls via www.office.com. Teams is a synchronous web-conferencing tool that allows for live lectures, meeting notes, screen sharing, real-time closed captioning and includes a fully functional whiteboard.  Faculty can easily schedule and create a session within their canvas course. Team meetings can also be recorded and upload to Microsoft Stream for easy access.

Canvas and BigBlueButton

The BigBlueButton web-conferencing tool will continue to be available within Canvas. This is an alternative web-conferencing option within Canvas.  It is limited in capability but is useful for specific situations.  Microsoft Teams overcomes the recording limit, in-session participation and scheduling challenges presented within BigBlueButton.

Microsoft Office365 Productivity Suite

The University has completed the email migration to Office365.  Mail can be accessed directly on the cloud from https://outlook.office.com. The Office365 productivity suite, including Sharepoint, OneDrive, Online Word and Excel, Teams, and Stream can all be accessed via the www.office.com website.  Email is also available at www.office.com.

Microsoft Teams

Due to the ever-increasing cost of software subscriptions, the University has implemented Microsoft Teams.  Microsoft Teams is included in the Office365 productivity suite and is available to the University at no additional cost.  Microsoft Teams will be the primary web-conferencing utility of the University for staff, faculty and students.  Teams is currently available and we encourage you to begin using Teams. Visit www.office.com to access Teams.  Zoom will be available until January 1, 2020.  No new additional Zoom Pro licenses will be purchased.

Training Assistance

To schedule a training session on any of these topics for your department, division, or individuals please contact Matt Mieure at mmieure@sienaheights.edu.

Faculty and Department Webpages

The IT Department has investigated options for individual department and faculty webpages.  Due to cost, support and functionality the University will be moving away from Weebly in the coming months.  More information will follow as it becomes available.
